Reader beware, this book might challenge your assumptions...

I really enjoyed this book. This is my first Afrocentric homeopathic healing book. I usually read websites and books about medicinal herbal remedies. I garden. I eat a mostly plant based diet. I am a black woman. I do yoga. Etc. So, some of the information in the book I’ve heard about in passing. Without this book I wouldn’t have the courage to incorporate many of the author’s suggestions into my life. The suggestions would just get filed in the back of my mind like, “yeah, I should add Epsom salts to my bath or drops of lavender oil”.

I must admit that some of this book was a bit of a joke to me. I understand that everyone comes from differing educational backgrounds and lifestyles but I found it surprising for women to lack knowledge of their monthly menstrual cycle. I was also almost offended by one or two statements in the book about history… but hey, facts are facts and just because I am ‘over’ history doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.

What I didn’t really love was the ritualistic nature of the entire book. I can’t imagine doing all that the author suggests. I don’t think I could go to work if I followed her guidelines. I added post its after post its to the book. There are so many teas, food ideas, relaxation ideas, suggested healing remedies (for ailments I don’t even have! LOL) that I know this book is invaluable. What I finally realized is that, like Christianity and segments of the Bible—this book is like a full manual to a lifestyle and (somewhat?) religious way of thinking. When I first opened the book I had no idea what the Khamit/Khamitic ways of thinking had to do with self-healing. By the end of the book I found myself carefully reading those sections. They are interesting.

I am not a regular churchgoer, but I fully believe in a higher power and accept his/her guidance in my life. Queen Afua’s higher power has multiple parts- Maat, Het-Hru, Nefer Atum, Heru, and Tehuti. This might bother a reader that comes from another religious tradition. It doesn’t bother me because I recognize that religion is a choice and the assumption of Christian belief that many American’s have is often just blind acceptance of a forced culture. Few examine their faith. I respect Queen Afua’s examination and explanation of how the tenets of her faith can lead to a womens’ self-healing. I wish other traditions did so. Many in the United States, as it is a supposed Christian nation, could benefit from such an examination instead of blind dependence on medical doctors, pills, and the health care system as our gods.

I understand that this book is meant to be an all inclusive guide but… I just don’t think I am on a path to becoming a sacred woman as laid out by Queen Afua. My final thought was… “this is so much work…” I am open to introspection, self-care, self-healing, and meditation but not exactly ready to set up my own altar… but I thought about it… hard.

One of my favorites

To those that have a problem with spirituality being incorporated in this book.... this is not the book for you. Heal Thyself is more health oriented for those who want to get straight to the point of women's health. Then you have The Seven Kitchen of Consciousness, which is more diet/food oriented with lots of recipes. I have all three of her books and even though they all deal with women's health, I love the fact that each book specializes in something different. The title alone should have been a clear indication that SACRED Woman: A Guide to Healing the Mind, Body, and SPIRIT would include a good amount of spirituality. Anyway, I am looking forward to reading Overcoming an Angry Vagina. I just wish she and other prominent holistic health gurus make more of their books available on Kindle.

Love the book. This book gives full details on how to heal the body naturally through Afrikan rituals. I felt as if it took me into a journey to reuniting me with my heritage which also help me release a lot of hurt. I have recommended this book to my daughters and friends. It is very extensive to be ready to change your life.

Content is worth it.

I normally don't write reviews this often but, This book is definitely helpful and while I order the hard cover edition. I really enjoy how this product is presented. I haven't read through yet but I heard many good things about Ron Tiner, A fellow artist who's in the industry recommended me this book. I'm on the side of the technical artist and I'm not usually good at drawing from mind but always need photo reference to get started and boost my ideas.

I recommend to check this book out. The knowledge and content is invaluable for those who are an artist with a weak imagination. Aleast thats what I consider myself.

Book, worthy of note.

Not exactly what I expected, but a interesting book nonetheless.

I especially enjoyed the first half of the book(and it was the reason I got it).
This is not a clean cut "how to" book, this is not a beginner's book either.

It is general guide, from the viewpoint of a veteran British illustrator, for those who already know how to handle a pencil.

As I said before, an interesting book.

The book came in three days. It was a little more worn than I expected and had price scans and cards being used for the library, but everything was readable and over all i like the book.

"Serope Kalpakjian" taught and conducted research at the Illinois Institute of Technology for 38 years prior to his retirement in 2001 as professor emeritus of mechanical and materials engineering. After graduating from Robert College (high honors), Harvard University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he joined Cincinnati Milacron, where he was a research supervisor in advanced metal-forming processes. He is the author of numerous technical papers and several articles in handbooks and encyclopedias and has edited various conference proceedings. In addition, Professor Kalpakjian has served on the editorial bards of several journals and the Encyclopedia Americana and is the coauthor of "Lubricants and Lubrication in Metalworking Operations." Both first editions of his textbooks, "Manufacturing Processes for Engineering Materials and Manufacturing Engineering and Technology," have received the M. Eugene Merchant Manufacturing Textbook Award. He is a Life Fellow of the ASME, Fellow of the SME, Fellow and Life Member of ASM International, emeritus member of CIRP (International Institution for Production Engineering Research), and a founding member and past president of NAMRI/SME.

Among the awards Professor Kalpakjian has received are the Forging Industry Educational and Research Foundation Best Paper Award (1966), an Excellence in Teaching Award from IIT (1970), the Centennial Medallion from the ASME (1980), the International Education Award from the SME (1989), a Person of the Millennium Award from IIT (1999), and the Albert Easton White Distinguished Teacher Award from ASM International (2000). SME named the Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award afterProfessor Kalpakjian for the year 2002.

"Steven R. Schmid" is an associate professor with the Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, University of Notre Dame, where he teaches and performs research in the general areas of manufacturing, machine design, and tribology. As the director of the Manufacturing Tribology Laboratory at the university, he oversees industry- and government-funded research on a variety of manufacturing topics, including tribological issues in rolling, forging and sheet-metal forming, polymer processing, medical-device design and manufacture, and nanomechanics.

He received the B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology (with honors) and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees, both in mechanical engineering, from Northwestern University. He has received numerous awards, including the John T Parsons Award from the SME (2000), the Newkirk Award from the ASME (2000), and the Kaneb Center Teaching Award (2000). He is the recipient of a National Science Foundation CAREERS Award (1996) and an ALCOA Foundation Award (1994). Dr. Schmid is the author of over 50 technical papers; has edited three conference proceedings; has coauthored two books, "Fundamentals o f Machine Elements and Manufacturing Engineering and Tecbnology;" and has contributed two chapters to the "CRC Handbook of Modern Tribology." He serves on the Tribology Division Executive Committee of the ASME, is an associate editor of the "Journal o f Manufacturing Science and Engineering," and is a registered professional engineer and certified manufacturing engineer.

Oversimplified

The emphasis of this book seems to be more on the basic mechanics of the different processes it describes. That's fine, and important to understand manufacturing, but...
BUT, he gives very little attention to how the material being processed responds to the processing. Without a better understanding of the microstructural effects -- and ensuing DEfects -- it may be too hard to troubleshoot the processes described in this book.
My professor was flipping through the early chapters of this book (where the materials issues are presented) and declared them "cheesy."
So, to sum up: this good book becomes great by combining it with other books/courses/professors/etc that will interject materials issues into this books discussion of the mechanical issues.

Incredible content, poor binder quality

I have not had a chance to really delve into the content. But paging through the book, I am very excited to go deeper. The book seems to touch on almost all mfg processes, even addressing material behavior, metallurgy, tribology, and some other wide ranging subjects that affect manufacturing.

That being said, I bought this book "new" from Amazon and it has several gouges on the front and back cover. Also the back cover hinge looks like someone took a knife to it so that there's only the inside glued paper that's holding the hard cardboard onto the book. Never seen anything like this from Amazon.

So much man! I'd buy that for a Dollar! He has so much to teach us. I know that jesus runs in his veins and I just want him to open up and let us all into soul.

And let's talk about the emotion! Are you kidding me? This guy is not afraid of opening up his world for all of us to see. And there it is in all its glory, and you just want to plunge in without fear of being judged by people with smaller minds.

He unabashedly shows us his manhood and we are obliged to acknowledge it with our hearts and our minds and our mouths. Now I know why Taffi is always smiling.

An Important Resource for Learning Diagnostics

I work as a child psychologist, where mental health diagnosis plays a big part in my daily role. I also teach DSM/diagnostics to graduate level graduate students. For me, these casebooks are extremely helpful, both in my role as a diagnostician, as well as in my work as an instructor.

This book doesn't go into much description about DSM, the process of diagnosing, or treatment. Thus, you will need to have a copy of DSM 5. Unlike previous editions of the DSM case studies, these are organized by diagnostic category [e.g., Depressive Disorders, Somatic Symptoms, Sleep Disorders, etc.] and there is a brief description of what symptoms/characteristics these entail.

For the most part, this book is a collection of vignettes [103, if I counted correctly]. Some are relatively easy and straight-forward [e.g., Jane was referred for an urgent psychiatric consultation after she told her roommate that she was suicidal], while others are much more complex [e.g., Sally presented to a psychiatrist as part of a court proceeding that was intended to legally reassign her gender to female]. The goal is to get you to think about the symptoms being presented and for you to formulate your diagnostic hypotheses.

With many of the vignettes, you are left with more questions than anything, as these descriptions are brief. Unlike your more typical case study, you aren't provided with extensive information about the person's family history, prior mental health background, treatment history, etc. When that information is included, it is done so to help you come up with the accurate diagnosis, particularly in situations where time-lines, family history, or prior history must be taken into account. For teaching/learning purposes, however, this is ok. Most of these vignettes are only a page or two, with the goal of highlighting key characteristics of a particular condition.

The case studies presented are relatively diverse. Some are made up and some appear to be genuine cases. At the end of each, there is a brief description of what the diagnosis is, or what the diagnosis will be in the future in the symptoms persist. The discussion is tied directly to DSM, telling you which diagnostic criteria the person meets. When applicable, a discussion of differential diagnosis is included.

Consistent with the philosophy and model of DSM, this book doesn't give treatment recommendations. Therefore, if you determine that Client X has an Alcohol Use Disorder, ADHD, Persistent Depressive Disorder, and/or Antisocial Personality Disorder, you need to decide what to do next on your own [e.g., individual therapy, marital counseling, medication, group therapy, etc.]. The book will not guide you in this regard. What is helpful, however, is that all of the vignettes have 'Suggested Reading' at the end, should you want to learn more about a particular condition.

Even if you have a solid command of diagnostics, this is a good book to have. This is especially true as we try to learn about the changes in DSM 5 and what this means for our work.

Excellent for learning to think inside the test paridigm

As an LPC who was warned about the importance of learning how to take the lpcc exam, I decided to purchase this book.
It was initially suggested that I use a particular online subscription service and I did utilize the free trial, however I knew I wanted something to make me think from the perspective of an outpatient counselor. Having spent 3 of my 4 years diagnosing and treating inpatient sub-acute clients with SPMI's intertwined with substance abuse issues, the order in which I diagnose is often inverse of the usual decision trees. When taking the online practice exam, I usually arrived at the correct diagnosis, but lost many points on the earlier question.
So, I knew that I had to retrain my brain to think the way we learned in grad school. This book was appealing to me because it offered extensive explanations for why an answer is the best choice. Also, being a book I wasn't constrained to learning within the subscription period.
I loved this book and found that it helped me a great deal.

This book, THE SECRET OF HEALING, like all the books written by Dr. Jack Addington is plainly written but profound in content. One chapter is titled THERE ARE NO INCURABLE DISEASES WHEN YOU UNDERSTAND THE CREATIVE LAW. That sums up Jack Addington's strong belief in the Power which is at the heart of everyone. This book takes you beyond the appearance of dis-ease to the cause behind it. It takes the focus from the illness to the "stuff" that is going on unseen, and leads one to know that there is a solution, if we are willing to change the thought patterns that have led to this situation. I heartily recommend this book to all who are in need of comfort and healing.

I am a raving fan of Roger von Oech's creative work as embodied in his books & card decks, namely:

- Ancient Whacks of Heraclitus;

I have used all his creativity stuff ever since I started my own strategy consulting (& book store) business in late 1991.

From my personal & professional experience, I would like to say that the entire collection of Roger von Oech's creative work has been designed to serve three strategic purposes:

- understanding - & removing - your mental blocks;
- breaking your habitual patterns;
- shifting your focus & changing your paradigms;

As a matter of fact, once you appreciate & commit to these three strategic purposes in your life, you will soon realise that there is nothing in this world to stop you from getting rid of old ideas & getting new & fresh ideas.

Allow me to quote Edward de Bono: "...the mind is habitually uncreative - it is usually preoccupied with organising masses of incoming data into convenient patterns. Once this pattern is established, then the mind tends to rely upon that pattern in future situations, in order to facilitate decision making & action in an otherwise complex world..." Breaking old habitual patterns is definitely the first & foremost priority in your journey to creativity!

Once your shift your focus, you begin to change your paradigms or the way you look at the world around you. Always remember this: Your brain follows the direction of your dominant thought. Once you focus on something, that thing becomes the foreground. Everything else around it will fall into the background. Most opportunties are unfortunately hidden in the background. The moment you begin to shift your focus, you are pushing the 'foreground' into the 'background', & pulling the 'background' into the 'foreground'. Get it?

I think everyone should have a pack of this cards because everyone sometimes feels stuck with a problem to the point that he is unaware of other possible solutions. The ideas in this pack help to look at the perplexing issue from many different perspectives. Sooner or later one may see the light, an open door, most likely many, many doors leading to numerous possible solutions. These cards are a valuable tool for brainstorming ideas, prompting the person to think of ideas that might have never crossed his mind otherwise. The wonderful think about coming out with creative ideas is that you also have lots of laughs while you're doing it because you begin to think of wild, whacky and outrageously fun things.
