Great intro to Project Management

I had to use this book for a class in Project Management and this was required reading. The "10 Minute Guide to Project Management book is very concise, to the point and yet it is not dry were I lost interest in reading it. In fact, if one really takes what the author writes to heart, they will glean much in a short amount of time.

Remember, this book is NOT all-inclusive and for the low price one shouldn't expect it to be. However, it is time well spent in reading it.

Okay, but not in depth and lacks some topics

Start looks promising, but later on it gets less and less detailed: almost only code examples with hardly any background information. Also a number of (imho) important topics are not covered, like protocols and delegation. As a starter it's okay, but if you want more background info for a better understanding of Objective-C I would advise another book like the Big Nerd Ranch Guide 2nd ed (which I am reading now ;-)

PS Please note that this review is about revision 3.1 of the book that covers IOS7.

A Must Have Item

I have a lot of goat books in my collection - a lot. And I've been raising goats for over 30 years now. This is a must have book. It is packed with current information, anatomical diagrams, and other information one can only pick up from reading Small Ruminant Research magazine articles (which don't come cheap and are often written in unnecessarily dense language).

This is an easy to read book in an easy to read format and is worth its price. A definite keeper in my library. (P.S. if you don't believe me, ask your local library to inter-library loan it from another institution and check it out yourself before you buy; that's what I did)

Literally, the Book on Contracts

Professor Murray has written here a definitive and comprehensive treatise on Contracts. It pairs very well with his textbook, the pair of which were plainly meant to be read in tandem. However, unlike other authors on contracts, Murray provides clarity on what the law is first, and then addresses what he understands to be problems with it.

It is very readable for a law text, and there is a sense of playfulness and lightness which make it among the more pleasant books on law that I have thus far read. (Admittedly not overmuch, I've just started school.)

If you use the other Murray Contracts textbook, this is an extremely useful add-on to have. It clarifies issues the text leaves confusing, and at least in our class was sometimes word for word what the professor would lecture. Super helpful!!!!

Bite-Size Yet Very Profound

Alicia Morga has a knack for summarizing the most important aspects of a topic in a manner that is both relatable and informational. The 20 lessons presented here provide not only a sense of reinforcement for current entrepreneurs but they also serve to inspire those of us who hope to achieve a similar level of success one day.

My favorite chapters, personally, include:

-FEAR: Serving as a reminder that being an entrepreneur requires the courage to persist despite the presence of one's fears.

-Detail: Professionally (and even personally) I do my best to pay attention to detail. In the hubbub of daily life and work-place craziness it can be easy to forget its importance but the truth of the matter is its the attention (or lack-there-of) to detail that generates the basis for first impressions.

-Your Word: I couldn't help but say "hallelujah" after reading this chapter. The ease with which promises are made in the business world only to be cast aside never ceases to amaze me, which is why I'm always thrilled with those who do follow through.

All in all, there is a wealth of food for thought in these pages.

A great book that will help you learn from one of the best entrpreneurs

Alicia is an incredibly wise and thoughtful entrepreneur. Her short and powerful book gives you a no-BS account of what really matters for founders and entrepreneurs. I'm an entrepreneur myself (Co-founder HireArt.com, YCombinator W12) and absolutely loved this little book.

Favorite parts:
-Chapter on perception (i.e., we have to understand that the way we are perceived by others is the reality they know about us)
-Chapter on choice and the need to step away from our own limited viewpoints to see a full picture about our situation (best quote "to a worm in horseradish, the world is horseradish")
-Chapter on actually sticking to your word. As an entrepreneur you have a million things to do and sometimes it's easy to forget to write back to an email or do a task. But the point is, if you don't have time, don't overcommit. Do less and do it well.

Great advice. It'll take you 20 minutes to read and is just a great reminder of what matters. The beauty of the book is that it says everything, but says it in the most succinct possible way. Straight to the point.

Adapted from Serling’s original television script, this entry in the Twilight Zone series of graphic novels follows former SS captain Gunther Lutze as he returns to Dachau to visit the concentration camp where he murdered hundreds decades earlier. He is soon met with the ghosts of the persecuted, who try him for his crimes. As is expected with the Twilight Zone, it’s not clear whether or not everything is attributable to Lutze’s tortured psyche, but the point is that it’s occasionally powerful and frequently creepy—if seeing hordes of the dead crawl out of ovens doesn’t disturb you, nothing will. The transition to the graphic format is smooth, with a shot/reverse-shot pattern of sweaty close-ups that emulates the feel of the original program. The scope of the imagery is grander than anything Serling could’ve attained (or even wanted), but for newcomers the sweeping scale will adequately replace TV’s inherent claustrophobia. A closing note describes the parallels to real-life Nazi war criminal Adolf Eichmann. Warning to purists: the artwork is in full color. Grades 7-10. --Daniel Kraus

About the Author

ROD SERLING (creator) has won the most Emmy awards for dramatic writing in the history of television. He wrote over seventyfive episodes of the Twilight Zone series. for which he won three of his Emmys. He was also the show's creator, host, and narrator.

MARK KNEECE (adapter) has written stories for numerous comics, including Batman: Legends of the Dark. In 1993, he came to Savannah College of Art and Design and helped found the Ssequential Art and Animation Department, where he teaches comics writing.

CHRIS LIE (illustrator) completed his MFA in Sequential Art at Savannah College of Art and Design. He has worked with several comic publishers and founded Caravan Studio, a comic and illustration studio, where he works as art director. He lives in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The past ain't done with you...

An SS officer at Dachau Concentration Camp escapes when the Allies liberate it in 1945, adopts a pseudonym and lives peacefully in South America. 64 years later he returns to the site of Dachau. Here he meets the ghost of one of countless victims to have died under his watch in WW2. And it's here that these ghosts will have their revenge on this monster...

The story retells the horrors of what went on in the concentration camps of the Nazis and brings to life the punishment we all would hope the Nazis faced in this life or the next. It's well written, and is a compelling read, utilising historical fact well into the nightmarish scenes the officer is subjected to.

A grimly satisfying book, Mark Kneece continues to bring back excellent Twilight Zone episodes in comic book form.

Great story

At the end of World War II, Nazi officer Lutze escapes from Dachau by shooting a prisoner and taking his clothing. Decades later, he returns to the town with a new identity and makes a visit to the place where he committed many atrocities. He arrives at the camp late in the afternoon and wanders around alone. Soon the memories begin to haunt him. He sees prisoners he remembers. They accuse him of the terrible crimes that happened to them. Lutze rehearses the Nuremberg defense ("I was only following orders") which is chilling given the horrors depicted (which just scratch the surface). In one scene, people come back out of the ovens to accuse him for their deaths. His memories finally drive him mad. He is discovered wailing uncontrollably on the grounds of the death camp by the attendant.

This story is very powerful and haunting. The episode was made in 1961 during Adolf Eichmann's trial for his part in the Nazi's Final Solution. This graphic novel captures the horror of a man without a conscience as he finally succumbs to his own humanity. Well worth reading.

Mais l'idee de Dieu n'a pas l'aval de la raison moderne, qui est, depuis Kant, une raison morale. La pretendue oeuvre de Dieu comporte ce qui ne peut plus etre escamote: le mal absolu. Or, l'idee de Dieu etant abandonnee, ce qui s'effondre, piece par piece, ce sont tous les concepts qui etaient lies a cette idee: de la une deconstruction qui est l'objet de ce livre, lequel prepare, par une reduction au neant de la vie, nomme ici l' Apparence, ce qui deviendra, dans les ouvrages ulterieurs de l'auteur, une metaphysique de la Nature (phusis), celle-ci prenant la place du Dieu ancien: l'on aura deconstruit; grace a un retour a la raison grecque et a un ressourcement a Milet, a Elee, a Ephese, l'on construira autrement.
