Good but better options are available if you are from the U.S.

A lot of good info but some terms are difficult to understand since I am in the U.S. and the authors are from England. They use different terms for common U.S. terms so it might cause confusion for some. Also broken up a lot, seems like topics are covered in a couple different spots in the book. Other than that, a lot of good info. Even my professor said though that there are much better options out there for U.S. users.

Solid coverage of all topics

It is a good book on operations management. Coverage of topics is solid, certain complex things are explained in a very good way. However, the book is somewhat dull and shallow. I used it in preparations for CIPS exams, it was sometimes boring, and I had to get more information on important topics elsewhere. That said, if you want a solid overview of everything in OpMan, and not afraid of lots of reading about that everything, the book is definitely for you.

A remarkably effective reminder to wash your hands. Good book, too.

This was recommended to me by a microbiology professor, and a sound recommendation it was. Briefly, I'll discuss who it appeals to and then the book itself.

To frame my interest, I'm the sort of person who likes watching "How It's Made" and am fascinated by infectious disease and the countermeasures deployed against them. An interested layperson. If you've ever taken a Microbiology course (or something related), you can likely appreciate the nuance of what's happening. Otherwise, it might seem a little nebulous.

Bookwise, we step into the ancient world. Nowadays, the germ theory of disease is not contested. It is the reality we live in. If someone gets sick and there isn't a bone poking out of somewhere, we tend to blame germs. Professionals break up germs into many different divisions and categories, but for the most part, the medical profession can do something when you get sick. Like... cure you.

It becomes clear that illness was a more grave concern as recently as a century ago, something that wasn't conceivable for me before I read this book. Wife got sick after childbirth? Bye bye, wifey. Kids got sick? Well, crap. Better have more. In this day and age where we try to save so many lives, it strains credulity to imagine that life was so cheap.

Enter Domagk, a researcher at the bleeding edge of his field. This is a tale of a man who was obsessed with locating a 'magic bullet' to do away with infection. It was a riveting read, and I'm glad to have put the time into it.

One of the best popular science books I've read

This is a truly eye opening book. On the surface it describes the history of the
discovery of a synthetic antibiotic that is of limited use in modern medicine. But it
really is far more than that - it tells an important part of the story of how
the pharma and medicine that we know today came to be. Hager does not overreach -
he has a compelling story, and he tells it exceedingly well. But he also does a superb
job of putting it in both its historical and scientific context.

Nonlinear storytelling has become pretty common in modern science writing,
and it is can be pretty annoying - writers seem to selectively choose fractions
of episodes from the history that seem to support their (frequently very narrow)
thesis. In this book, Hager uses the same technique in a far more effective and
informative way. The interludes are themselves brief, but masterfully told,
histories of great discoveries in science and medicine.

I like the Princeton guide a little bit better, but this has more practice tests (see full review for details)

PROS:
1. Good topic by topic review
2. Four practice tests (more than Princeton, which has three)

CONS:
1. Has some test questions that are really dependent on some odd memorization quirks that I don't think often come up on the actual SAT
2. Has slightly more errors than some of their competitors (though usually the errors are easy to spot in that they've given you the correct explanation and it's an obvious typo and/or flip-flop of least/great)

In terms of the SAT II Chemistry options out there:
a) Kaplan is WAY too easy in terms of the test bank/practice tests and, in my opinion, good for foundations review and/or confidence boosting
b) the Official College Board one is, of course, great, but only gives you ONE practice test for Chemistry and really no subject review
c) It's a toss up between Princeton and Barron's in terms of which is the best. I feel like the Barron's has questions that are almost a little too hard (or emphasize memorizing things that aren't as commonly tested, like heat of fusion constants that aren't provided), but Barron's gives you four practice tests whereas Princeton gives you three. Both have some errors (some of them are very obvious, where the explanation is correct, and then they list the wrong answer or give the wrong letter). They both have diagnostic tests and decent topic by topic review... so it comes down to whether you'd rather have one extra practice test (Barron's) or are used to the Princeton method (if you've bought other ones).

** You can find additional review questions online for free via sparknotes, but they have some errors, and there are also like 20 free questions provided by College Board online...

I found many mistakes in the book, especially in the practice problems' explanations, but I found its topic reviews to be very clear and easy to read. By reading through the whole entire book, one can quickly grasp the essential ideas that are key to scoring well on the Chemistry Subject Test. (Personally, however, I found the Organic Chemistry to be unnecessarily detailed)

Errors EVERYWHERE.

There are many errors in the practice tests! It claimed that Lithium was the most reactive metal in the group one elements when it is Francium. There are other errors that you should probably search up before trusting the answer key of the book.

Powerful Lean Tool for You

Paul Myerson has achieved a perfect balance between academic theory and practical real actionable examples and templates for the reader. The easy read and informative narrative and illustrative style makes it a practical learning and reference tool for the professional beginner, the classroom student and for the experienced lean champion. Paul Myerson's "Lean Supply Chain and Logistics Management" clearly demonstrates that lean is alive and well in the warehouse, on the shipping docks and in the procurement offices, in addition to the traditional factory floor.

This is NOT another supply chain book .. you can actually use it!

As a former professor of supply chain and a current practitioner, this book tells me that supply chain has come a long way. This book strings together topics that are necessary to make lean operations successful. Some books cover at a high level without being practical .. but this one has practitioner in mind. From value stream mapping through metrics, every step guides you in implementing the lean way. The House of Lean depicts all topics and their relationships in one picture.

And there are some unique aspects that takes the topis one step further. For example, most companies and major consulting firms do not recognize the differences between cycle and processing time. And these differences have significant impact on bottlenecks and capacity decisions, and more importantly on lead time related metrics. Time-based competition is the last frontier for companies to differentiate when product differentiation is becoming less of a sustainable strategy.

The book does not leave out the staple topics such as value stream mapping. The examples are clear and shows the value of these standard techniques. Finally, no book on management is complete without metrics. There are case studies in the book to demonstrate the value of these techniques. The author has done justice on these topics as well.

Style of writing: humor all through. Makes it easier for reading.

If you are starting a project or do a good bit of work on supply chain improvement, process improvement / harmonization - this is a handy book to have.

Paul Myerson's Lean Supply Chain and Logistics Management is a pragmatic, no-nonsense outlay of lean supply chain and logistics management for today's globally competitive environment. It is truly a refreshing discussion of the topic without the clutter and lexicon that books of this type sometimes contain.

The book is particularly advantageous for those organizations with lean programs who want to employ cross-functional teams to improve and add efficiency to their logistics operations. Of note in the book's 16 Chapters are the numerous real-life examples and case studies used to demonstrate principles and points that the book teaches. In addition, the book has several tools and aids to be used in group settings to foster learning and development within a logistics or other operations department.

I'd be hard pressed to find anyone within the logistics industry, or the classroom, or otherwise, who does not keep this book on their shelf to refer to again and again, after they've read it, used it and shared it with others. I highly recommend Department Heads as well as University instructors consider its use to engage their teams and classrooms in lean supply chain logistics, without a long drawn out curriculum to follow. This book is a true keeper!

Surprisingly good

Typical board exam type EKGs for IM and cardiology boards. Style of interpretation occasionally differs from what would be considered safe for boards - e.g., diagnosing LVH and LAFB, LBBB and LVH simultaneously. Best feature = references to seminal journal articles discussing criteria, prognostic implications, etc. Quick read, good yield. Will use it for lecture prep.

Not worth the money factually inaccurate

I read the book online and am glad to have not bought it. It is factually in accurate. first off, its the beginning of their sophomore year. In the first season, Rachel mentions that this is her first year in glee. Therefore, Sandy's firing and all of that happened yet. The pilot establishes that the glee club didn't exist until Mr. Schuester resurrected it. Why, because Sandy was fired. If you assume that the pilot began in September then the firing happened shortly after Rachel became a part of glee.
The author obviously only gave a curiosity glance at the source material before writing the book. Also events are mentioned that have never even been suggested in the series, like Rachel doing the announcements, Or Cheerios money drives. (Brittany wasn't even a character until episode 3 and Santana didn't have a name until episode 2)
So if you are for something that fits the canon and will add to the goodness that is glee, this isn't it. The Fanfiction author TheMinsk on [...] writes better works that this.
So reasons to not by the book:
1) ignores the pilot for the most part (by not remembering that there is only 9 months to fit 21 episodes)
2) It amplifies the characters way too much
3) mentions items and songs that couldnt exist yet for the characters (OMG by Usher)
4) ignores what little established pacing and continuity existed in pilot and first season.

Yes it is a prequal, don't waste you money. Don't bother with foreign exchange either. Send money to the fanficton authors, or Ryan Murphy

Save Your Money, Read Fanfiction

Aside from a few Sue Sylvesterisms and the reveal of the names of Rachel's two gay dads, Glee: The Beginning is largely forgettable. I read this book while browsing in a bookstore and saved myself some money. Glee: The Beginning is confusing in several parts especially to Gleeks who pride themselves on reasonable knowledge of the TV series, something the author apparently does not have. The novel is supposed to set itself up to dive immediately into the pilot episode of the TV series, but several parts (i.e. Mr. Ryerson's dismissal per Rachel's "outing" him) are skipped over completely. The part that threw me the most was a side reference to Usher's "OMG"...a song that only recently became popular, yet this story was supposed to have taken place over a year ago!

In short, Glee: The Beginning is forgettable fluff. Save yourself some money by not purchasing it; if you really want to read about your favorite Gleekers, read a Glee TV script or, if you're really desparate for new stuff, the Glee section of sites like [...] is full of people who could probably write a more fact-accurate account.

Too many distracting problems

To be fair, there is some interesting back-story with the Quinn, Finn, Santana and Puck love triangle (love square?) Other than that, though, this very short book is filled with so many distracting inconsistencies with the show that it's just not enjoyable. It really doesn't seem as though the author watched any Glee before sitting down to bang out a manuscript -- it may well be based entirely upon written character bios.

Unlike some of the other reviewers, I actually did pay for this book on my Kindle and now really regret the wasted money. Learn from my mistake: read the reviews before you buy.
